Dream our friends forward is a workshop with curator artists and chefs, Phillip McCrilly and Moonhyung Lee, and curator Cecelia Graham.
Dream our friends forward will bring together a group to collectively engage in and consider the act of neighbourly foraging. Together, we will contemplate how acts of companionship and exchange enable us to enact different ways of being that challenge hyper-productive and silo-ed working practices. Through foraging and making, we will cultivate new ways of being that put forward alternative economies and build upon forms of knowledge that emerge from our surrounding environment, neighbours and soon-to-be friendships.
The workshop consists of two parts. First, we will forage together in the Ormeau area of Belfast, where we will encounter seasonal ingredients that contribute to the second part of the workshop – the creation of a batch of fruit syrup. The fruit syrup will be made in an alleyway that runs behind Phillip’s house, with the making of it an on-site activation amongst neighbours.
We will discuss sustainable foraging practices that encourage we harvest ethically, and think about how this slow and thoughtful act creates the foundation for empathetic and neighbourly approaches to artistic practice.
