Angela Weight is a graduate in Fine Art from the University of Reading and worked in publishing, in which she retains a keen interest, before becoming a curator. She was Keeper of Art at Aberdeen Art Gallery before taking up a post in the Department of Art at the Imperial War Museum. As Keeper from the early 80s, she was responsible for major acquisitions of 20thcentury and contemporary British art and for many exhibitions of historic and contemporary British art. Angela served on the IWM’s Art Commissions Committee for over 20 years, working with artists such as John Keane, Paul Seawright, Langlands & Bell and Steve McQueen.
She curated the first exhibition of Sir John Lavery’s war paintings for the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in 2009 and has worked in a freelance capacity as a consultant for the IWM and Wolverhampton Art Gallery. She has numerous publications to her name and has recently written about Carel Weight’s time in Europe just after the Second World War. She is currently Chair of the Trustees of Beaconsfield Gallery Vauxhall.
She received an honorary doctorate from the University of Brighton in 2016 and is a member of ICOM and the Association for Art History.
