Burong Zeng is an independent arts producer and a live art researcher-practitioner based in London and Beijing. Zeng conducts research in theatre and performance and produces innovative and impactful performance projects. Zeng’s particular passion lies in exploring the lived experience of invisible disability and its profound impact on the meaning-making and performance-making process. Her PhD thesis explored how women and non-binary performance artists use sticky and viscous materials, such as bodily fluids, food and everyday objects, to challenge binary thinking and broaden our scope on embodiment, otherness and body politics.
Before embarking on her PhD at the University of Sussex, Zeng honed her skills as a playwright and performer, exhibiting and performing at renowned venues and festivals worldwide, including the Pratt Gallery (New York), Power Station of Art (Shanghai), G12 Hub (Belgrade), Southbank Centre (London), and Exeter Phoenix.
Zeng is a prolific writer, having published various materials, including journal articles, short novels, book chapters, and a co-authored book on contemporary performance.
Zeng is a member of BAN’s Disability in British Art Research Group, The British Academy’s Early Career Researcher Network, and The Choreography and Corporeality Working Group of the International Federation for Theatre Research.
