Carmen Mateo

Carmen Mateo is a Scotland-based curator and researcher originating from South-Spain, focused on social involvement, community, and connectivity. Her strong interest in visual arts, moving image and participatory events have informed her work with emergent artists and institutions to deliver a range of exhibitions. The Block, 2023 and Shrine, Museum, Holy Place – What is Sacred?, 2024 are some of her most recent curatorial projects in Spain and the UK.

During her MFA in Curatorial Practice at DJCAD Dundee, she has explored and researched different approaches to curatorial production, focusing on curating with care and creating opportunities for the audience to respond. Her curatorial practice centres on questions such as: How do I care for the people that I’m working with? What does care look like? Above all, how do they express to me how they want to be cared for?
