Dominic Bate is a PhD Candidate in the History of Art and Architecture at Brown University, where he is finishing a dissertation titled, Pythagorean Visions: Pictures and Projectors in Early Eighteenth-Century England. His research links the phenomenon of speculative improvement schemes (projecting) with early eighteenth-century artists’ and artisans’ engagement with ancient ideas about mathematical harmony as a foundation for aesthetics and artistic practice. Before moving to the US, Dominic worked as a Print Cataloguer at the British Museum after receiving BA and MA degrees in Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art.
