Gary Thomas is co-founder and director of Animate Projects, a curatorial and production agency, at the intersection of film, animation, and the visual arts. Selected projects: Place Setting (Nina Thomas, British Ceramics Biennial, QUAD, LUX); Dear Friend… (Anne-Marie Creamer, Sir John Soane Museum, London); Unfolding the Aryan Papers (Jane and Louise Wilson, Stanley Kubrick Archive), WORK (Dryden Goodwin, Esther Johnson, Jenny Holt, Adam Lewis Jacob).
Gary co-authored A Review of Artists’ Film and Moving Image in Scotland (2003) with Adam Pugh. Other consultancy includes work for Jerwood Arts, Wellcome Trust, Arts Council England, Creative Scotland/Scottish Arts Council, Crafts Council, and external examiner/validation roles for University of Huddersfield, Royal College of Art, Open University/Plymouth College of Art and University of the Creative Arts.
He is co-chair of the Stuart Croft Foundation, and previously a trustee of UK New Artists, LUX, and National Dance Company of Wales. He was previously in the Film team at the British Council and a Senior Visual Arts Officer and Head of Moving Image at Arts Council England.
Gary studied at the Polytechnic of Central London and has an MA in History and Theory of Contemporary Art from Chelsea College of Arts.
