Gemma Gore is a visual artist, arts educator and organiser based in Southampton. Grounded in positions of disability, motherhood and queer-ecology, she probes the qualities of interconnectedness and intimacy.
Gemma’s practice values collaboration. Since 2021, she has shared a practice with Jo Willoughby (based in Holland): from Doggerland. Together they study the cultures of the water and submerged land between them. Gemma is also a member of ‘PaC: practicing acts of common’, part of More Than Ponies. Inspired by the ancient agricultural commoning practices of the New Forest we enact commoning as a social and relational artistic practice.
Trained in material practice, she holds a BA in Wood, Plastics, Ceramics and Plastics (University of Brighton). Current projects include How can I be me, you be you (and I be your mother)? for Photoworks, and Community self-portrait for Artswork. Gemma works throughout the UK and beyond, is Associate Artist at John Hansard Gallery and is Associate Art + Design Foundation tutor at OnCampus, Southampton.
