Dr Ilaria Puri Purini is interested in curatorial practices that are collaborative, experimental and inquisitive. Ilaria is concerned in creating dialogues between lesser-known art historical narratives and contemporary practices.
Ilaria is currently Curator of Programmes at the Contemporary Art Society in London, where she works across the visual arts and crafts. Ilaria is knowledgeable about acquisitions policies of collecting institutions. She is particularly interested in mediating between the discrepancies that exist between London and the regions when working with contemporary art. Ilaria has worked with many contemporary artists in Britain and has become interested in broadening the concept of what British means in the UK and what British means abroad.
Ilaria worked on a number of exhibitions. She is the co-curator of the exhibition Pioneers: Morris and the Bauhaus at the William Morris Gallery and worked in the curatorial departments of the Victoria & Albert Museum, Tate Modern and Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome. In her independent practice Ilaria worked on artistic residencies in Italy and France. She studied at the Humboldt University in Berlin and La Sapienza University in Rome and holds a Ph.D. on the relation between dance and art in the Weimar Republic from Birkbeck University. She is a published author.
