Maddie Boden

Dr Maddie Boden is a research assistant at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology currently working on a major exhibition on the theme of colour in the Victorian period. She is a team member of Chromotope, a five-year ERC-funded project that investigates how the ‘chromatic turn’ of the 1850s mapped out new ways of thinking about colour in literature, art, science and technology throughout Europe. Maddie completed her PhD at the University of York researching British Orientalism and Frederic Leighton’s travels to the Middle East. Her research interests also include the global nineteenth century and the material culture of travel.
