Manmeet K Walia

Manmeet K Walia (she/her) is a curator and writer from Delhi, India, whose ongoing practice focuses on young South Asian voices. She did her first Masters in English Literature before completing her Masters in Curatorial Practise from Chelsea College of Art, University of Arts London. After practicing journalism for over half-a-decade, she transitioned to being in the arts. Walia’s curatorial projects include Woven Expression, Chelsea Space (London) and The Library Project, supported by the University of Arts London, ‘Line (by)Lines’ (Delhi). Walia’s repertoire of public-program includes Royal Academy of Arts (London), Chelsea Space (London), Faiz Festival (Lahore), SAPAN (Boston) amongst others. Walia currently lives and practices in London.

Walia considers her curatorial approach as an expressive artistic practice to raise social issues through experiential discourse. Focusing on South Asian and International Art, as a curator, she endeavours to shape the overall narrative with an understanding of perceptions in the matrix of artist-art-audience. She believes curating allows her to engage with artists, fostering collaborations, public engagement and exchanges that enrich her curatorial (artistic) practice. In her ongoing collaboration with respected Pakistani curator Salima Hashmi, they envision to bring young voices from South Asia to the UK, with an exhibition set to be showcased at the SOAS Gallery.
