María Piqueras-Pérez holds a PhD in Arts and Humanities from the University of Murcia (Spain). Her PhD research focused on black British media. She investigated the legacies and impact of the London-based black British film and video collectives Ceddo, Black Audio Film Collective and Sankofa. This research was fully-funded by a Séneca Foundation doctoral grant, awarded by the Regional Agency of Murcia for the promotion of Science and Technology. She holds a BA in English Studies from the University of Murcia (2018), with an end-of-degree Extraordinary Award mention, and an MA on ESL also from the University of Murcia (2019), which was distinguished with an award from the Rotary Club given to talented master’s degree students. She has been a Visiting Researcher at the University of Westminster, London (September 2021-January 2022), at King’s College London (August-December 2022) and the University of Liverpool (July- December 2023). She regularly presents her ongoing research at national and international conferences and symposia. She is an active member of the research project ‘Queer Memory on the Margins of Contemporary Anglophone Cultures (Literature, Cinema, Videogames)’. María’s research interests include–but are not limited to–Cultural Studies, Memory Studies, Film Studies and Postcolonialism.
