Millie Brown

Dr Millie Brown is an artist who lives in London. She completed her practice-based PhD in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2019, after completing her MA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths in 2001 and her BA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in 2000. She joined BAN in June 2024. Her current research and art practice focuses on the impact of the current socio-economic climate in relation to her continued precarity and marginality, from a Black British female, working-class background, art school trained research perspective, within a contemporary mainstream metropolitan western late capitalist globalist, art world in which race, class and gender inequality continues to define who ends up with a productive art career and financial stability to continue to produce new knowledge. Her research and practice would be categorised under the themes of: Black Art and Visual Culture; Intersectional Feminism; Women’s Studies; Cultural Studies; Sociology; Black Activism; Post-Colonial Theory; Ethnic Studies.
