Millie Lake is the Assistant Curator & Operations Officer at TheGallery, Arts University Bournemouth. TheGallery plays an integral role as a learning platform for the University’s students and staff, bringing international artists and designers onto campus. Just this year, Millie has co-curated several exhibitions including the AUB hang of the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2023. She also worked with Royal Academician Ian McKeever on his exhibition Against Architecture, Remodelled (2023-2024), and co-edited its supporting publication.
Outside of exhibitions, Millie manages AUB’s Art Collection of over 800 pieces. The collection showcases the legacies of AUB students, staff and exhibiting artists and represents the whole range of diverse disciplines being taught and studied at the University over the years. Millie is currently leading on the digital transition of the collection onto the Modes database software.
During her studies, Millie’s practice focused on sculpture and installation. Inspired by artists like Rachel Whiteread, Doris Salcedo and Mona Hatoum, her work explored themes of the home and the uncanny. Millie is also passionate about making art accessible and, outside of her role at TheGallery, runs creative workshops. They are a place for people to learn new crafts with no pressure placed on the session’s outcome.
