Poppy Bowers is a curator, concerned with social practice and expanded economies of art. She is Acting Senior Curator (Exhibitions) at the Whitworth, where she has worked as Exhibitions Curator since 2016. She is currently developing a major exhibition and commissioning project on art and economics and is working with colleagues at Tate to present a significant exhibition in Manchester of art and the women’s movement in the UK between 1970-1988.
Poppy is also Series Editor of Whitworth Manuals, a new book series between the Whitworth and Manchester University Press that explores how artists increasingly intervene in the systems of daily life to imagine our world otherwise. Poppy has been a Visiting Tutor at Goldsmiths University and currently teaches on the Curating Art MA module at The University of Manchester. She is a member of the Curatorial Committee at the Association for Art History and an advisory board member for PINK contemporary art space and Feast journal.
