Portia Yuran Li

Portia Yuran Li (she/her) is a Chinese artist and theatre director based in London. Her multidisciplinary practice weaves together research archives, mythology, fictional narratives, and performance to delve into the intricate tensions surrounding power dynamics, geopolitics, and identity conflicts. By examining generational trauma within East Asian families and the experiences of East Asian immigrants, Portia employs performance art and body workshops as pathways to healing, offering subtle yet profound insights into human struggles and desires.

Portia graduated from her MFA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths University of London in 2019, and has exhibited works at notable venues such as Science Gallery, IKLECTIK, Gallery 46, Ugly Duck, The Old Operating Theatre, Safehouse and more. In 2023, she founded Roarrr Theatre in London, where she writes and directs innovative productions that blend art and theatre, creating enriching experiences for families.
