Roxana Gibescu is a curator and PhD researcher working with museums, galleries and independent organisations on the subject of the cultural other and its impacts on contemporary art. For her doctoral thesis, she explored the work of Romanian diaspora artists in Paris: André Cadere, Lizica Codreanu and Dumitru Tsepeneag and got the chance to work with British historian Lynda Morris for the exhibition André Cadere Conceptual Documents 1972-1978 shown at Timișoara Art Encounters Biennial. She worked as an assistant curator at tranzit.org, an Eastern European network focusing on contemporary art, reflection, and critical distance, where she co-edited the historical publication house pARTy 1987 & 1988 that follows two alternative manifestations from the Communist period. Roxana’s research theme for the Emerging Curators Group programme in 2022 will revolve around recent diaspora artists from marginal nationalities who have influenced the mainstream of British art and how the produced shifts are being acknowledged at an institutional level.
