Sara Choudhrey

Sara Choudhrey is a British Pakistani artist and researcher based in London, specializing in Islamic art and design and its impact on British art history. Her work explores themes of space, place, identity, and heritage through visual and material culture. Sara’s work takes an investigative approach, engaging with historical collections, archives, and architecture to challenge the attitudes and values embedded in art historical narratives.

Sara is currently contributing a chapter to Critical Histories of the Arts and Crafts Movement on nineteenth-century artisans’ study of Islamic art material. Her artistic practice spans sculpture, installations, and animations, with an emphasis on making knowledge accessible.

Shortlisted for the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize (2023, 2024), Sara was also a finalist for the Aesthetica Art Prize in 2022 for her installation Siraat which explored themes of migration, and was supported by Arts Council England. Her works have been exhibited internationally at Saatchi Gallery and Sharjah Islamic Art Museum and are held in permanent collections, including Leighton House Museum and Borough Road Collection Archive.

Sara has taught at the King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts and Kingston University’s School of Art. She holds a Master’s in Digital Arts from the University of the Arts London and a PhD in Digital Arts from the University of Kent.
