Dr Thomas Ardill is curator of paintings, prints and drawings at Museum of London. He works with artworks with London subject matter from c.1600-now, as well as developing multi-media permanent displays and temporary exhibitions on a range of subjects. He recently co-curated Executions (Museum of London Docklands, 2022-23) and Secret Rivers (MOLD, 2019), and is currently content lead for future permanent displays on the subjects of faith, entertainment and the built environment in London.
Thomas holds an MA and PhD from the Courtauld Institute of Art, and completed his thesis in 2016 (supervised by Professor David Solkin and Dr. Martin Myrone): Between God, Art and Mammon: Religious art as public spectacle in England, c.1800-1832.
He has a special interest in J.M.W. Turner, and has contributed towards Tate’s online catalogue of the artist’s Sketchbooks, Drawings and Watercolours, as well as publishing catalogue essays for Tate and National Gallery.
