Tor Scott is a Curatorial Assistant at the National Galleries of Scotland, and a AHRC-funded PhD candidate in Art History at the University of Edinburgh. Her thesis focuses on the life and work of the little-known British Surrealist artist Edith Rimmington. Tor received her master’s degree from the University of Glasgow in 2016, with a paper titled ‘Mare Stanes, Adder Beads and Elf Arrows: Superstitious Objects and Perceptions of Evil in 14th-18th century Scotland’. Passionate about material culture and art, Tor has worked in museums and galleries for almost a decade, including institutions such as the Hunterian Museum & Art Gallery and with the college art collections at Trinity College in Dublin. Her research interests lie in Surrealism, Spiritualism, the Celtic Revival and British Modernism, as well as folklore and the occult in visual arts and archaeology. Tor has worked on a number of projects and with various committees, including the DERC for the Association of Art History in 2020 and the Scottish National Galleries Project.
