Yipei Lee is a curator and researcher based in Asia. She is the founder of SUAVEART, a research-based curatorial institution focusing on environmental issues, nonhuman perspectives, and nonplace topics within island contexts, exploring the intersection of art, science, and life.
Yipei has facilitated many transnational and innovative programmes include The Invisible Trajectory: Drifting Sounds and Shadows Between Cities at Schubertstrasse and Photobook Café (Indonesia, Switzerland and London, 2024); Transcendence – Beyond Boundaries at 2050 (2024); Ex-tension: The Dislocation of culture and pattern at Curator’s Lab (2018)
Recent projects rooted in the Southeast Asian and ecological context include: Wagiwagi – Greeting to Nature at documenta 15, in collaboration with Jatiwangi art Factory (2021-2023); Seeding Future – Tropical Rainforest Project in Sumatra Island (2019-2021); Flaneur in the Insular Cities: Island Ecology, Online Residency (2021-2022)
Additionally, she has worked on initiatives that establish scent topology and natural environment about humanistic care and cultural literacy. These projects include Food as Cultural Landscape at Kunsthaus NRW Kornelimünster (2024); Deconstructing Siraya: Indigenous Siraya Scents and Memories (2023); Intangible Collection of Memories at West Bund Museum and Archipelago Bookstore (2021), and Island Kaleidoscope Podcast.
Her curatorial and research interests include materiality, being ecological, diaspora, archive, modern & contemporary art.
