Rita Keegan, Journey to Here

Journey to Here traces the creative genealogy of the Rita Keegan Archive Project (RKAP) as they collaborated to produce Mirror Reflecting Darkly, a publication exploring Keegan’s archive collection; a solo exhibition Somewhere Between There and Here at South London Gallery, and a presentation of Keegan’s photographic work Time, Place and Memory, at the Royal Academy Summer Show, both of which opened in September 2021.

The film explores themes of intergenerational creative kinship, self-archiving, and archiving as activism within contemporary curatorial processes. Set against a backdrop of the pandemic, Journey to There collages two years of collaboration, weaving Keegan’s archival materials with RKAP members’ intimate dialogue, film footage, and photography.

RKAP is a social history and curatorial collective that seeks to preserve and share the work and collections of Keegan. Founded in 2018, its members include, Ego Ahaiwe Sowinski, Dominique Zenani Barron, Lauren Craig, Matthew Harle, Gina Nembhard, and Naomi Pearce. RKAP is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
