Black text reading 'Picture this?' repeated three times on a green background. below is text with details for the Reframing Migration seminar as detailed on this webpage.

This seminar discussion invited multidisciplinary and intergenerational speakers from the South West working with issues relating to photography and migration. The gallery space was transformed into a research space where participants were invited to spend the morning amongst work exploring ethical issues with photography and migration.

Attendants included Gloucestershire Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (GARAS) staff, a photographer and asylum and immigration lawyer, an activist and photographer, and an academic researcher and Cheltenham for Refugees arts facilitator. Each participant gave a ten-minute presentation about their visual or photographic work. This led into a group discussion focusing on issues of ethics and future steps in relation to reactivating photographic representations of migration. The seminar created a vital space for cross disciplinary exchange in this area, within which diverse approaches and ideas about photography were shared.

The follow up to this event was a Reframing Migration Conference at Cardiff University, JOMEC, on Friday 25 October 2024.  More information on the event can be found here: www.framingmigration.com
