Transnational Landscapes Research Day Events
Chelsea College of Arts
Friday 30 May, 14:00–17:00 BST
An interactive drawing workshop using the body as a dynamic tool for creating visual landscapes. Participants alternate between performing and drawing, forming group “body landscapes” guided by Lulu Wang. This rotating process creates a collaborative and evolving visual narrative.
Inspired by Wang’s ongoing work at the intersection of movement and drawing—including previous workshops with Bow Arts x East London Art Prize—this session also serves as a community-building process, reflecting on identity, migration, and shared space.
Please note: Erasers will not be provided. Participants are encouraged to embrace original marks and the organic evolution of their drawings.
This session explores themes of trauma, reparative aesthetics, and ecological memory, drawing from Bayjoo’s artistic practice. Through a screening of his film Pran Kouraz (Take Courage, 2019), participants will reflect on the history of island plantations, maroon communities, and land-based reparations in Mauritius.
The screening will be followed by an open group discussion on collective memory and healing.
A convivial discussion led by Almiro Andrade & Jessica Wan
This final discussion will explore themes of care, resistance, and solidarity across transnational contexts. Participants are invited to share thoughts and reflections inspired by the earlier workshops.
