Deadline: Monday 30 September 2024
Dr Harald Fredheim and Dr Stella Basinyi from the University of York together with Dr Patoo Cusripituck and Dr Jitjayang Yamabhai from Mahidol University in Thailand are leading a new research project on participatory practices in museums, with a particular focus on museums in the UK and Thailand. As part of this, they have launched a survey that draws on the Museum Association’s “Power to the People” self assessment framework, which defines participatory practices as “museums and communities working together as equal partners.”
The survey invites museum staff to reflect on how embedded participatory practices are in their museum in a range of different ways and then for some of their perspectives on their own experiences of participatory practices. There is also a section on information about their museum and here there is an option to nominate a colleague to provide information they may not have access to. It will take approximately 30 minutes to complete the survey.
Although it would be ideal to receive responses from a wide range of museums, responses from multiple colleagues in the same museum will be welcomed. A knowledge exchange event is being planned for January 2025 where respondents will be invited to engage with the preliminary analysis of the survey data and share views and experiences with colleagues across the sector.
