A History Of Art In Three Colours 9pm, BBC4

“In his final exploration of colour, James Fox tells the story of white, which in the history of art is not as pure as it seems – in fact, it may be the darkest colour of all. He examines how white became associated with the sculpture of antiquity (despite much of it originally being rather colourful) and the way German art historian JJ Winckelmann connected that to a certain morality (white equals purity), and what the colour meant to fascists. A fascinating intellectual journey.” Martin Skegg (The Guardian, 7 August 2012)
