Wilhemina Barns-Graham in Edinburgh

‘Wilhemina Barns-Graham: A Scottish artist in St Ives’, City Art Centre, Edinburgh 24 November 2012-17 February 2013

“The painter Wilhelmina Barns-Graham is usually classified as a St Ives School artist, yet her Scottish roots and close links with her homeland throughout her life had a huge influence on her work. This major exhibition, marking the centenary of her birth, radically reappraises her career looking at the influence of her artistic training in Edinburgh, the inspirational resource she found in Scotland and its continuing creative importance. The exhibition is the first to look at the artist from this perspective.” (see here)

“The exhibition occupies two of the spacious floors of the City Art Centre, and is so planned that the dazzling late work is saved to the end. On entering there is almost the feel of a family occasion, with the art school works of the determined daughter so amply justifying her self-belief, while her penetrating drawing of her rigid father, jaw locked in frustrated determination, looks on.” (Douglas Hall in The Times, 15 December 2012)

Emerging Art Organisers conference at Goldsmith’s

“The second annual Conference for Emerging Art Organisers is open to anyone involved in an organisational capacity in the emerging arts, not necessarily exclusively or through an emerging institution. This includes the running of galleries, artist-led spaces, project spaces, pop-up projects, collectives, art publications, art broadcasting, or any other activity engaged in promoting or enabling emerging art.” (from the ALISN website)
