Caitlin Doley is a PhD candidate in the History of Art department at the University of York. Her doctoral thesis is provisionally titled ‘Looking Beyond the Wrinkled Surface: Old Age and Art in Britain, 1870 to 1910’ and considers how ways of managing aged appearances can be understood as presenting opportunities for creativity. More broadly, Caitlin has a number of interdisciplinary research interests, including the relationship between images and words, the intersection of high art and mass culture, classical reception studies, historiography, and feminist, queer and crip theory. She has published in a number of peer-reviewed journals and has also worked at a number of galleries and heritage sites, including Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village, York Art Gallery, Strawberry Hill House, and Hampton Court Palace.
