Izabella Gill-Brown is a PhD candidate in the History of Art department at the University of York supervised by Professor Jason Edwards. Her research is provisionally titled as ‘Sculptural Narratives: Portraits of Queen Victoria’s Indian circle’ and examines the relationships and roles of nineteenth-century Anglo-Indian sculptural portraits produced for the British Royal Family. Her wider interdisciplinary interests include material cultures, feminist and postcolonial criticisms of the long nineteenth-century, and the conservation of fine art.
Izabella is also undertaking an internship with ICON UK as a preventive conservation intern at the National Museums Liverpool supervised by Dr Siobhan Watts (ACR). Izabella holds an MA in Conservation of Fine Art, specialising in the treatment of easel paintings with a primary focus on monochromatic artworks alongside a BA in History of Art. Her outside interests in sustainability (as an editor of Sustainability in Conservation), and decorative arts and frame conservation. Izabella has worked on variety of artworks and has recently published as part of the conservation publication ‘The Greener Solvents Handbook: an introductory guide’.
