Dr Charlotte Mullins is an art critic and broadcaster. In 2022 she published A Little History of Art with Yale University Press. She is now working on a book on British art, also for Yale. In it she seeks to consider the history of British art from a contemporary perspective, visiting art around the British Isles to see what it can tell us about Britishness today and our national past. The book will focus on the global networks that have always allowed artists, materials and ideas to flow into and out of Britain. It will consider empire and colonialism, immigration and emigration, the changing geography of Britain and women artists living and working in the British Isles. It will stretch from the earliest engravings found in the Gower Peninsula (c.14,000y) to Hew Locke’s Procession (2021) and Ackroyd + Harvey’s collaboration with Extinction Rebellion.
