Kitchen Table Conversation #1 is an event programmed by Household in partnership with the British Art Network and Flat Time House on the 8th August 2024, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. This event is the first of three events in Autumn/Winter 2024 organised by the British Art Network’s ‘A Place based History of Art’ research group, which explores the history of art, artistic networks and artists’ legacies from the entry point of ‘place’, focusing on towns, cities and rural locations across the UK.

Together with invited speakers, Household will explore local histories of the domestic as a site for production. This conversation will take place in La Roche House, Belfast; a modernist domestic space that is used for exhibitions and events. In the afternoon, Household will examine the infrastructures that support the (creative) communities surrounding the domestic and the future of artist residencies in the city. This conversation will be hosted in 498 Antrim Road, a building owned and developed by MMAS architects where Household will situate a new residency space and programme that connects artists with people and place in Belfast.

Kitchen Table Conversation #1 marks the first in a series of ‘Kitchen Table Conversations’ which Household will hold during 2024/25 in different cities. These events bring people together to discuss the domestic as a productive site and are part of the research and development of their programme.
