Alex Day is a researcher, textile artist and curator from Norfolk. They are interested in the representation of disabled artists and plan to explore the ways that accessibility can be improved in museums, galleries, collections and multiple other culture and heritage spaces.
Alex has worked in a curatorial support role since April 2023, after taking the leap into a museum trainee position at Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery. Before this, they worked for over 3 years as an education support worker for vulnerable young people. Inclusive, safe and equal access to museum learning and engagement provisions is paramount for Alex, and they are excited to develop this research throughout their time with the ECG.
Alex graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a Joint BA (Hons) in Fine Art and Art History in 2017. Their final dissertation explored the application of the everyday object as a material in contemporary art produced by working-class British artists. Their own creative practice also echoed this. In 2018, they were awarded a part scholarship on the Contemporary Art Theory MA course at Goldsmiths, London. Here, they explored the complex dynamics between performance art, pain and spectatorship.
