Bella Okuya is an artist and independent curator. Her artistic practice spans moving image, photography, and installation. Her work primarily revolves around navigating the political and the poetic within the collective consciousness of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) communities. Her work responds to the inner and outer landscapes of marginalised groups inhabiting cities.
She is a Fulbright Scholar on an All-Disciplines Award, earning an MFA in Photography from Parsons, School of Design, The New School in 2023.
She also works as the artistic director with The Photography Foundation, where she curates and leads on creative direction. She has self-published two publications: a participatory photo zine about sight loss in London and a recent photo book about women of colour in photography.
Through the ECG program, she is interested in exploring art that subverts mainstream representations of BIPOC communities in relation to mental health and well-being.
