Charlotte Baker

Charlotte Baker is Deputy Director at Southwark Park Galleries where she works closely with the Director on programming, operations and strategic development. Southwark Park Galleries has a long history and strong reputation for commissioning and supporting artists at a critical point in their career. Recent exhibitions by UK based artists include Florence Peake and Tim Spooner in 2023; Candida Powell-Williams, Lydia Blakeley, Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom, Rosa-Johan Uddoh and John Lawrence in 2022.

Charlotte was previously Assistant Curator at Hayward Gallery Touring, collaborating with artists, curators, writers and other non-profit arts organisations to develop national touring exhibitions. She worked with curators Irene Aristizábal and Hammad Nasar on British Art Show 9, which is widely acknowledged as one of the most important and ambitious recurrent touring exhibitions of contemporary art produced in Britain and a catalyst for many artists’ careers. She contributed texts on artists for the BAS9 catalogue.

Selected other exhibitions include: IN A DREAM YOU SAW A WAY TO SURVIVE AND YOU WERE FULL OF JOY (2016-17), curated by Turner Prize winning artist Elizabeth Price; British Art Show 8 (2015-17); and, as Curatorial Assistant for Hayward Gallery, History Is Now: 7 Artists Take On Britain (2015). She has also held roles at Wysing Arts Centre and Frieze London.

Charlotte has an MA in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a BA (Hons) in History of Art from University of Manchester.
