Christina Bradstreet

Dr Christina Bradstreet is author of Scented Visions: Smell in art, 1850-1914 published by Penn State University Press in 2022. She specialises in British painting and visual culture c.1850-1914, particularly Pre-Raphaelitism and Aestheticism. During the Covid19 pandemic she created a series of eight art and mindfulness videos for the National Gallery, using meditation themes to deepen engagement with paintings, and has pioneered numerous experimental courses in this area. She has 8 years of experience in writing museum interpretation – for example, writing the National Gallery’s Picture of the Month page. She has a particular interest in conveying the 21st century relevance of Pre-Raphaelite paintings that highlight social themes around injustice and inequality. She is seeking freelance curating, teaching, and writing opportunities and hopes to curate exhibitions on art and the senses, art and mindfulness and or the contemporary relevance of paintings. She lives in Derbyshire and is Courses and Events Programmer at the National Gallery, London, where she teaches widely. She studied at the Courtauld Institute of art and Birkbeck College, where her doctoral thesis was awarded the Anne Humphreys Prize.
