Christine Toelle

Christine Toelle (she/her) is an Indonesian art practitioner and postgraduate student majoring in Social Anthropology at SOAS, University of London. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Bandung Institute of Technology. She has previously worked as a programme manager for Gerilya Artist Residency Program, Selasar Sunaryo Art Space and later as an Education and Public Programs Coordinator at Museum MACAN. Toelle has curated numerous exhibitions, written essays and academic papers, including artists’ showcases for Goethe Institut Indonesia, Sumida Expo Japan, Salihara Art Centre, Korea Foundation Jakarta Office, and ARCOLABS. She practices advocacy as an alumnus of Sekolah Pemikiran Perempuan, or The School of Women’s Thoughts. This initiative intervenes in the processes of knowledge production that marginalise, invalidate, and erase women.

Correspondingly, she has participated in international conferences and events, such as Jakarta Arts Council’s Perspective Lab, AESCIART 2022 and ICAEB-23. She has been a speaker and moderator at various art-related discussions for institutions like NuArt Sculpture Park, Serrum Jakarta (Gudskul), Art Agenda SEA, LASALLE College of the Arts, and @AMERICA Indonesia. Through those projects, her practices connect materialities to context, intersectionality and public outreach.
