Christy O’Beirne

Christy Eóin O’Beirne is a curator, writer and artist. Having grown up in a migrated Irish family in Bradford, West Yorkshire, O’Beirne’s work is driven by investigations into fragmented diasporic identity, specifically its intersection with linguistics, shibboleth, decay and mourning. He is fascinated by unearthing the debris of displacement and the ways in which intergenerational colonial trauma is inscribed into landscapes and topographies, considering soil as an archive of violence, migration and memory. O’Beirne’s practice consistently interrogates and rearticulates the notion of diaspora, aspires to generate points of access for marginalised groups and catalyse cultural translation.

As Curatorial Assistant at Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art, O’Beirne recently curated Diamonds and Rust, Freya Dooley (2022), and has assisted with several major exhibitions. He produced a publication, If One Feather Falls… (2022), and is currently co-ordinating LVAN: Relay, a community engagement-focused project. Prior to Goldsmiths CCA, O’Beirne worked as a Gallery Assistant at John Hansard Gallery (2019-20) and Lisson Gallery (2018-19), and as an Assistant Archivist for the restoration of Video Nation (2017). O’Beirne holds an MFA in Curating from Goldsmiths, University of London (2019-21) and a BA in English Literature, Art History & Visual Culture from University of Exeter (2015-18).
