Claire Louise Staunton is a curator and researcher. She is Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellow at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art/Teesside University and Tutor of History and Theory at Architectural Association, London. She completed her AHRC funded Ph.D. in 2022 at the Royal College of Art (RCA) where she also worked as an Associate Lecturer. Previous roles included Research Curator at MK Gallery, Milton Keynes, Director/Curator at Flat Time House, Founding Curator at Inheritance Projects and Lecturer in Critical Studies, Fine Art at Goldsmiths College. Her expanded research practice addresses the intersection between art, politics, and housing development. Curating is Staunton’s principal research methodology and as such, she has curated numerous significant exhibitions and conferences such as The Coming Community: Art, New Towns and Place and Lie of the Land (MK Gallery, Milton Keynes), as well as Jane Drew 1911-1996 (ICA, London) and solo shows by artists including Rory Pilgrim, Katrina Palmer, Edward Krasinki, Laure Prouvost and John Latham. Staunton is currently co-editing a book on the history of Artist Placement Group (Raven Row/Koenig) and curating a long-term project with residents of housing associations for Three Rivers in Bexley.
