Dr Elisabetta Fabrizi (She/Her) is an independent art historian, curator and writer. Based in Newcastle upon Tyne and London, her primary research interests focus on the class systems, as well as the economic and political processes that inform film and video cultural production in Britain. More recently her research has concentrated on the work of artist/director Steve McQueen; more generally, alongside the formal and conceptual properties of British film & video works, her research appraises the role of moving image curators and artists in the formation or dismantling of class distinctions. Dr Fabrizi brings to her academic research and writing an extensive empirical experience of curating and commissioning film & video projects, including as Head of Exhibitions at the British Film Institute, London, and as Curator at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead. Her curatorial practice and research both emerge from a longstanding interest in the interrelations between art and film, a topic that she also explored during her cum laude degree in Film Studies and Art History at Bologna University; her Master in Curating Contemporary Art at the Royal College of Art, London; and her PhD on the Curation of the Artists’ Moving Image in Britain at Newcastle University.
