Gina Warburton

Gina Warburton is an Exhibitions & Collections Assistant at Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre working closely with the Curators to carry out management and research of Bury’s substantial Victorian and contemporary art collection. Gina also delivers exhibitions with contemporary artists and has a wealth of experience in curating, commissioning and developing concepts in this role, for example, working with British sculptor Tony Heaton for his 2022 exhibition ‘altered.’
In 2019, Gina received a Fellowship from the Understanding British Portraits Network for a research project surrounding the Walker family of Bury and the artist Louis-Pierre Spindler with a focus on identity and portraiture amongst the industrialists of the North West which culminated in artist commissions, an exhibition and a publication.
Gina’s interest in British art curating is varied and brings into focus, co-curation, representation and historical context. These topics Gina has developed through a BA and an MA in Classics and Art History at Durham University with her dissertation focusing on the representation of Classical women, in particular Cleopatra, within Western art. Gina has been published in magazines such as Lancashire Life and has delivered Curator’s Talks on a range of topics, for example on renegade women artists in Bury’s collection for National Women’s Day in 2018 and on Bury’s approach to curating for the BAN Emerging Curators Group trip in 2022.
