Hanifah Ṣogbanmu is a British-Nigerian multidisciplinary artist-curator based in north west London. She graduated from the University of the West of England, Bristol in 2019, where she completed her degree in BA (Hons) Architecture and Planning. During her studies she spent a year abroad at the Politecnico di Milano, where she co-founded the first officially recognised Muslim Student Association in Italy, Associazione Studenti Musulmani – Politecnico di Milano (ASM-PoliMi).
Her curatorial journey began in 2021 with a project entitled ‘Houses of Wisdom’, an audio-visual exhibition exploring the traditions of knowledge in Muslim communities and vernacular architecture across Sub-Saharan Africa and the Black Muslim diaspora. Her research interests include phenomenology, spirituality, well-being and cultural heritage, with a particular focus on the Islamic traditions. Hanifah hopes to further research and explore how these themes intersect and can be represented through visual art practices including her own.
