Ismail Khokon is a British Bangladeshi visual artist based in Nottingham, dedicated to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. He aims to shape the region’s arts ecology and support isolated and vulnerable people. Ismail is one of the artists featured in Our Stories Are Wild, an exhibition associated with the University of Derby’s Nature Connections Conference 2024.
Additionally, Ismail serves as a trustee and environmental lead at BACKLIT gallery and a Steering Group Member for the Contemporary Visual Arts Network in the East Midlands. He recently completed his Reshaping Governance residency at New Art Exchange and participated in the Curate residency program there.
He was a panellist for NAE Open 2023 and the New Artist Collective: Taking Place (People, Place and Practice) Derby 2024. Currently, he is an associate artist at Mansfield Museum. He has a studio at Primary Gallery, where he actively practices visual arts.
