Jane Alison

Jane Alison is a freelance curator with a particular expertise in the post-war period in Britain. She is currently curating an exhibition on the work of the photographer Roger Mayne, with a focus on young people for the Courtauld Gallery, opening in June 2024. She is especially interested in how we experience art, reassessing overlooked figures and inter-disciplinary curating. For ten years she was the Head of Visual Arts at Barbican, leaving in 2022 to focus on her own projects. Most recently she curated Postwar Modern: New Art in Britain 1945-1965 in 2022. Prior to that, she was responsible for several pioneering exhibitions, including: The Surreal House (2010) and Modern Couples: Art, Intimacy and the Avant-garde (2018).
