Independent critic, former Secretary General AICA, International Association of Art Critics and President of the British Section, Marjorie Allthorpe-Guyton was Director of Visual Arts, Arts Council England 1993-2006 and Editor, Artscribe International 1989-1991. Her recent publications include essays on the recent Venice Biennales published in Critical Muslim , issues 8,24,31,42 and many reviews and catalogue essays on contemporary art. She was a co-curator of the British Art Show 1984, and East International 1992, with artist Helen Chadwick. She studied art history at the University of East Anglia and at the Courtauld Institute , becoming a museum curator at Norwich Castle Museum and publishing oeuvre catalogues and curating exhibitions on John Sell Cotman. She curated an exhibition and published a history of Norwich Art School,and has been an external examiner at the Slade , Goldsmiths. She is currently Trustee of the Kenneth Armitage Foundation which hosts artist Fellowships in London and Leeds.
