Dr Paul Stewart is a socially engaged artist and curator, based in Newcastle, using film, performance, and sound to explore how histories are shared, and how knowledge can be embodied when working with multiple voices and communities. He is currently Principal Lecturer for Research and Innovation in the School of Art and Creative Industries. He co-founded the Middlesbrough Art Weekender in 2017 and has set up collectives including the Alternative Art College (2011-2014) and Bad Spirits with Dawn Bothwell. Stewart has developed works and community projects across the UK and Europe including commissions from the Hatton Gallery, The Newbridge Projects, Tate, BALTIC, MIMA, ZdHk, Circa Projects, MHKA. He has curated over 20 exhibitions, and is author of Art, Critical Pedagogy and Capitalism (Routledge 2021) and a new monograph on Educational Aesthetics with Bloomsbury (due 2024).
