Steph Roberts

Steph Roberts is a freelance curator, facilitator and researcher, with over 15 years’ experience working in the museum sector in Wales. Her practice is grounded in a belief in the healing potential of art, and a desire to influence systemic change in the sector. She has held curatorial, and learning and engagement positions at National Museum Cardiff, Paintings in Hospitals, and as an adult tutor.

Steph uses her professional platform to work alongside people who are excluded, overlooked, or disadvantaged by systemic barriers. She has a specialist interest in art for health, and has lived with a disabling chronic condition herself since 2018.

In 2022 she gained a Postgraduate Diploma (Health) from Cardiff University, exploring the impact of cultural engagement on health and wellbeing, and has over 5 years’ experience delivering art-based programmes for wellbeing.

She has worked on major international projects, including Kizuna: Japan | Wales | Design exhibition (2018), and Reframing Picton anti-colonial commissioning project at National Museum Cardiff.

She graduated with distinction in MA History of Art (Courtauld, 2013), and BA Fine Art (Prifysgol Cymru Aberystwyth). She is based in Wales, and is fully bilingual, practicing in both Welsh and English.
