Susan Bennett MA is Honorary Secretary and Editor for the William Shipley Group for RSA History (2004 to present). She has given talks on aspects of the Society that ‘poked its nose into everything’ (RSA); organised symposiums – including one with the Royal Academy on early drawing schools; another on the International Exhibition of 1862 – the papers were published in a special issue of the Journal of the Decorative Arts Society, and she produced a virtual tour to complement the volume. Previously she worked as Curator/Archivist for the Royal Society of Arts (1973-1998; 1992-2001) and now also acts as administrator for the Friends of the Gordon Russell Design Museum, Broadway. Susan Bennett produced an online resource for the Design Archives, University of Brighton on the Royal Designers for Industry represented at the Britain Can Make It exhibition, 1935. In 2020 Susan Bennett published A Thankless Child. The life and times of Georgiana Jane Henderson (1771-1850). The subject was an amateur artist who knew many 18th century artists and literary figures and married an early patron of Turner and Girtin and has completed an article on the connections between William Beckford and the Society of Arts for the 2022 issue of the Beckford Journal.
