We are thrilled to bring together such a fabulous and generous group of voices as we open up and unpack some of the rich histories, contexts and legacies of the Venice Biennale:
BBA x Venice
Wednesday 30th November 2022.
2-4pm
Zoom
2022 marks a landmark year for the Venice Biennale. It is the first time in which women of colour represented Britain, the USA, New Zealand, Scotland and France and saw the first Black women in its history awarded the prestigious Golden Lion. As the Biennale draws to a conclusion, join the British Art Network’s Black British Artists Research Group for a panel discussion that will reflect on the history of British artists of African, Caribbean and Asian backgrounds at the Venice Biennale.
Featured speakers include Gilane Tawadros (Director, Whitechapel Gallery), Christine Eyene (art historian and critic, Liverpool John Moores University) and the artists Joy Gregory and Abbas Zahedi.

BBA x Venice Workshop
Monday December 5th 2022
1 – 2.30pm
Zoom
Join us with co-organiser Pauline Desouza (Diversity Arts Forum) in a workshop to discuss the reception and legacies of this year’s Venice exhibitions (with emphasis on the national pavilions helmed by Zineb Sedira and Sonia Boyce) constructed in the press. Together we will look at reviews from across a range of sources to think about the ways in which narratives around those exhibitions have been constructed.
Please note that this is a closed workshop, open only to members of the Research Group.
If you would like to attend the workshop, please email Lizzie ([email protected]) to sign-up.
