Call Out for Studentship Proposals at Tate

Tate is currently welcoming studentship proposals from prospective doctoral supervisors and doctoral candidates. If you are interested in submitting a formal proposal for review, please read the Tate Research Strategy and submit an initial, light-touch Expression of Interest form or get in touch with [email protected].

If expertise and capacity is available within Tate to support your doctoral research idea, you will be invited to co-develop a Stage 1 Proposal with Tate-based supervisors. You will be required to submit this proposal by Monday 18 September. Successful candidates will be invited to develop a Stage 2 Proposal, after which the final three studentships for commencement in October 2024 will be selected.

Applications are assessed by a panel with members drawn from universities and other cultural heritage organisations as well as Tate. The successful studentships are selected on the basis of their academic merit and their contribution to the organisation’s objectives and research strategy.

Timeline:

  • Expression of interest submitted by end of August
  • Stage 1 Proposal co-developed with university and Tate supervisors (and in some cases a nominated doctoral candidate) and submitted by 18 September 2023
  • Successful candidates invited to develop a Stage 2 Proposal by early/mid-November 2024
  • Final three studentships selected by the Tate Doctoral Training Board by December 2024
  • Candidate (recruited or nominated) begins studentship by October 2024
