Job Opportunity: Freelance Contributing Editor – British Art Studies

British Art Studies is currently searching for a contributing editor who would be engaged on a freelance basis for two years from July 2023. A fixed fee of £10,000 p.a. is offered.

Closing Date Monday 3 July at 10am BST

Interviews for the role will be held on Thursday 20 July

British Art Studies (BAS) is published by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art and the Yale Center for British Art (PMC). It normally produces three issues per year and is a platform for innovative research on all aspects of British art, architecture and visual culture.

Since its launch in 2015 the journal has grown in scope and ambition. BAS is looking for someone who is committed to expanding both the histories of British art and digital publishing as a freelance contributing editor. BAS is edited collaboratively by a team in London and New Haven. BAS is keen for the new member of the team to help expand our editorial expertise and shape the future direction of BAS, maintaining its reputation for scholarly excellence, responsiveness to authors and creative experimentation. They will also contribute to two current projects at the journal: the remote residency programme “Atlantic Worlds: Visual Cultures of Colonialism, Slavery, and Racism”, which is currently in its second year; and a special themed issue scheduled for 2024, titled “Queer Art in Britain since the 1980s”. In late 2023, a major redesign of the journal website that prioritises digital sustainability and accessibility will also be launched.
