Collecting, Curating and interpretation- Benchmarking Best Practice

27 November 2023 @ 12:15 pm - 2:30 pm

Categorised:

This time we’ll be looking at best practice in terms of collecting, curating and interpreting the work of disabled artists and disability art. It is an opportunity for us to hear real life examples and discuss how pockets of best practice (in disability and other contexts) can become standard practice across the sector.

In particular we want to delve into how stories of disabled artists, past and present are told through the curatorial process, and how new forms of non verbal interpretation impact the understanding and appreciation of art.

Our speakers include Melanie Grant from Wellcome Collection, independent artist, curator Sam Metz and Kate Adams CEO of Project Artworks. We will explore best practice, lived experience (and the lack of it) in art writing, how the curator’s perspective and knowledge of disability is a factor in how stories are interpreted and how the presence of disability in art is communicated.

Event runs from 1pm – In-Person buffet and networking from 12.15pm; Online access at 12.45pm
